Company history
The Litas bus station in Požarevac has a rich history that goes back almost eight decades, following the development of local and intercity transport in the Braničevo district.
Beginnings and development (1945–1970)
In 1945, the "Traffic Center" was founded in Požarevac, whose fleet consisted of several war-trophied trucks. The first lines connected Požarevac with Veliki Gradište, Golubac, Žabari, Svilajnac and Petrovac na Mlavi. After the establishment of "Lasta" in 1946, the company operated as its plant until 1961, when it was renamed "Moravatrans". In 1962, the company "REMONT Požarevac" was formed, which continued to expand its fleet and the number of lines.
The origin of the name LITAS and the golden age (1971–1989)
On 1 January 1971, the company was renamed LITAS (Line and Tourist Bus Service), a name suggested by a student, Draško Isaković, from Požarevac. During the 1980s, Litas had around 200 vehicles and transported more than 20 million passengers per year, including international routes to Europe, Asia and Africa. It was the exclusive carrier of Yugoslav athletes and participated in the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics.
Privatization and changes in ownership(2006–2024)
In 2006, Litas was privatized and became part of the multinational company Veolia Transport, and later operated under the name Arriva Litas. In March 2018, construction began on a new office building in Požarevac, worth 2 million euros, which included a technical inspection, service and staff premises.
After that, the company operated under the name MobiLitas, until October 2024, when Požarevac-based company Saniva 012 took over 100% of the capital and announced the return of the Litas name.
The return of the Litas brand (2025)
As of January 1, 2025, the company will once again operate under the name Litas, with a fleet of 150 buses and around 300 employees. The plan is to modernize the fleet with new buses manufactured in 2022, as well as expand the tourist offer, including destinations such as Greece, Turkey and Spain. The plan also includes digitalization of services via a mobile application and the establishment of a car rental company.
Today, Litas continues to be a key carrier in the Braničevo District, with an emphasis on quality service, cooperation with local communities, and business modernization.
